Data mover question

Hello!

Yesterday we installed a NS20. Some problems came across, like It warns us that the standby data mover is faulted however it seems to be operating well. If we ping its internal IP it responses. Any idea how to solve this problem?
Our error message looks like as follows:
Severity: Warning

Brief Description: Standby Data Mover server_2.faulted.server_3 is out of service.
Full Description: No additional information is available.
Recommended Action: No recommended action is available. Use the text from the error message's brief description or the message's ID to search the Knowledgebase on Powerlink. After logging in to Powerlink, go to Support > Knowledgebase Search > Support Solutions Search.

However every function works fine.

Hi,
First of all Welcome to EMC Support Forum. Hope you find this site useful and worth participating & contributing regularly.

Coming to your situation - looking at the message it is clear that your Primary data mover is Data Mover 3 - i.e. data mover 2 has faulted over to data mover 3.

If you pay more attention - you 'll find that server_2 which is the logical name for the primary data mover is now working on slot 3 and slot 2 has been renamed as server_2.faulted.server_3. You really need to check the slot 2 (data mover 2) why it has failed over. Or did you administratively failover the data mover.

You mentioned every function works fine. That is the case as the data mover failover was successful and the standby data mover is working as active one now.

Can you check the details with the following commands (you may provide us the output of these commands as well) -

/nas/sbin/getreason
nas_server -l
server_standby server_2 -v mover

If you find that slot_2 is up and running and no issues found - you may try to restore server_2 from data mover 3 to data mover 2 (which will revert back to the orginal configuration - slot 2 will work as server_2 - primary and slot 3 will work as server_3 - standby). The command for the restore is

server_standby server_2 -r mover

Hope this helps. Please revert back if required.
Thanks,
Sandip

I think it would be prudent to open a case with customer service to determine why the data mover failed over

Hello!

Here's some updated information.
We're on site right now and completed the procedure as you described, and it works correctly without any error. We'll open a case at costumer services to find out why this thing happened.

Thx a lot!

Valentin
