Symptom
If you find your dell system hangs up or can not wake up from sleep mode, do not worry, it's not a hardware issue. Try to update your system Bios version.
Affected systems
- Inspiron 5400 2-in-1
- Inspiron 7500 2-in-1 Silver
- Inspiron 5401
- Inspiron 5501
- Inspiron 5408
- Inspiron 5508
- Vostor 5401
- Vostor 5501
Solution
For Inspiron 5400 2-in-1, Inspiron 7500 2-in-1 Silver, please update your Bios version to 1.3.1:
- Browse to the Dell Drivers & downloads page: https://www.dell.com/support/home
- Enter your system Service Tag, Serial Number, Model or keyword
- Select the Operating System
- Under Category, select BIOS
- Locate the latest System BIOS(Version 1.3.1 or newer)
- Click Download and save the file to your computer
- Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved
- Double-click the BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process
- Your system will restart during the update
Note: Do not power off the computer during the BIOS upgrading process.
The system restarts automatically and updates the BIOS at the system startup screen. After the BIOS update is complete, system restarts again.
For Inspiron 5401, Inspiron 5501, Inspiron 5408, Inspiron 5508, Vostro 5401, Vostro 5501, please update your Bios version to 1.4.3:
- Browse to the Dell Drivers & downloads page: https://www.dell.com/support/home
- Enter your system Service Tag, Serial Number, Model or keyword
- Select the Operating System
- Under Category, select BIOS
- Locate the latest System BIOS(Version 1.4.3 or newer)
- Click Download and save the file to your computer
- Open File Explorer and browse to the location where the downloaded file is saved
- Double-click the BIOS setup file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process
- Your system will restart during the update
