R730 iDRAC 8 Java Error: Network Connection has been dropped

I am getting the following Java error message when I try to launch the virtual console from either Chrome, Firefox or IE:

"The viewer has terminated.  Reason: The network connection has been dropped."

This issue only seems to happen with this one server and my laptop.  I am able to use my laptop to view the remote consoles for other servers, so I don't think it is a java issue.  Likewise, I can use a different computer to launch the virtual console and it works as expected.  So that should eliminate any kind of iDRAC issues with that server as well.

The only thing I can come up with is that the Windows 10 firewall on my laptop is some how blocking access to the virtual console on this particular server .

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Thank you!

Hi,

Trying clearing your java cache. Try adding the idrac ip to the compatibility view in IE.

Hi Josh,

I am now able to open the console with IE but I still get the same error when using Chrome or Firefox.  Any ideas on how to resolve this issue for Chrome and Firefox?

Thank you.

They don't have a compatibility mode, you may need to use older versions. The release notes have the supported browser versions https://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER05025687M/1/iDRAC_2_60_60_60_Release_Notes_A00.txt

But I can use the same version of Chrome to launch the same version of iDrac on another server just fine.  So I don't think it is my version of Chrome either.

I can log into the iDrac web interface.  The only problem I am having is when I try to launch the remote virtual console I get that java error.

Hello folks, If you're getting "The viewer has terminated. The network connection has been dropped" error while accessing dell iDRAC follow below steps: 1. Check the current version of Java (you can check in Start search for Java and click on about Java) 2. If it is Java 8 update 180 or more uninstall it. 3. Go to https://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-javase8-2177648.html and look for "Java SE Runtime Environment 8u161" (you can go for 8u162 or 171 as well, it is up to you) and download jre-8u161-windows-i586.exe and run. 4. Restart your browser 5. Try launching console now and Bhooom!!

It is ridiculous that we are forced to use bugged and older releases of Java in order to use enterprise grade access systems.

Hi all, sorry, I didn't mean to be polemical. Anyway I suggest if for you is possible, to upgrade iDrac firmware and use html5. Hope it helps.

Cheers

Great !!!! kawabunga

i fight with it a lot , and using your suggestion worked.

i had to uninstall the other updates (the install of this package asked to uninstall and did it alone)

Important: you may need to add an exception for java security
the ip of the address ou are trying to connect to , if this is an IP.

I have tried all of the recommendations in this feed and none has worked for me. To resolve this issue:

1. Create a rule in your firewall to allow port 5900 access to the IP Address of your iDRAC.

2. In the web browser you are using to view your iDRAC, disable pop-up blockers.

3. Log into your iDRAC.

4. In the Virtual Console Preview area, click Settings.

5. Change the plugin type from Native to HTML5. Click Apply to save changes. Note: instead of viewing the console using Java, it will use your web browser.

6. Go back to the main page then click Launch in the Virtual Console Preview area. Watch the magic!

Note: this has worked for me from all versions of Windows.

You saved my life! JRE is rubbish! HTML5 works nicely.
