Instructions

Issue

In Emergency Mode, Storage Center responds with the following actions:

  • Restricts write I/O to pages already allocated; that is, only re‐writes of existing data is allowed
  • Prevents new volume creation

To support recovery efforts, these functions remain available:

  • Volumes remain visible as read‐only
  • Volumes can respond to Space Recovery requests from the server or Dell Storage Manager to release unused blocks of data

Steps to Resolve:

To resolve Emergency Mode, you must reclaim consumed space or add more capacity. After Emergency Mode is resolved, review the system capacity requirements and consider adding disk space.

To reclaim consumed space, perform each step and wait a few minutes before reassessing the available space.

  1. Check the Recycled Bin and empty if applicable.
  2. Identify and expire Snapshots that are not necessary.
  3. Delete unnecessary volumes and empty the Recycled Bin.
  4. Run white-space recovery on hosts where applicable.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact Dell Technical Support.

  • When contacting support, they may ask what data or volumes that can be deleted if the above steps do not work. More capacity may be required which must be purchased.
  • Post Standard Support (PSS) does not cover this type of troubleshooting. If a user wants to proceed, they must purchase a One-Time Fee (OTF).
  • Support is not authorized to send out temporary disks to alleviate the situation, including placeholders that may eventually be purchased.
