PE R710 fails to POST

Hi,

I'm looking to see if anyone has any quick ideas as it's too late for warranty replacement of parts until monday now.

Have an R710 that locked up. An admin rebooted the box and it didn't come back up again. Attached console to find it wasn't posting. It makes it about 2/3rds of the way through the BIOS progress bar and then just sits there, never completes, never makes it to a point to get into BIOS.

Any suggestions? It's been stripped of memory just in case, but no different.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Dmackerracher,

Sorry to hear that. What you can do is take it to a minimum to post configuration to isolate the issue. Power down the server and open the cover. Then remove everything but the following from the server;

System board

Risers

Processor (CPU1) with Heatsink

Power Supply

One stick of memory in DIMM slot A1

Control Panel w/cable

After everything else is removed then power up and see it passes POST. If so then place each item removed back in the server, one by one and then power up and see which one causes it to fail POST and that is your cause.

If you are able to restore everything and the server still POSTs then the issue was probably a bad connection.

Let me know how it goes.

What is the last thing you see on the screen?  I'm assuming your LCD panel is amber?  What does it say (should be scrolling an error code/message)?

Last thing on screen is the progress bar for POST. It just stops and sits there. Isn't amber on the monitor.

No error messages.

I guess we are going to have to strip the machine and see.

i solved this by going into BIOS setting and then DISABLED Memory Test!!!
