XPS 9370 Fan Noise
When sitting idle (not seeing any heavy usage for anything in task manager over 10% anyway), how loud should these fans be? If I'm sitting here not even using it with the power adapter plugged in it seriously sounds like the fans are at full blast sometimes.. Seems like when I unplug the charger it slows down after a few seconds then eventually they turn off. Is this normal? It is kind of annoying for $1700 laptop to make so much noise just sitting idle, but if theres nothing to do about it, it is what it is. Thanks

I just received xps 9370(i7, 16GB 512SSD) last night and found the laptop's noised soon after boot. I've just updated the BIOS to the latest version and updated all the driver the Dell Assistant ask me to do. But the noise didn't get better after I do so. The Noise appear no matter when the AC was plugged or not, but may sometimes disappeared when idling for a few minutes, yet appear again after I keep running software.

Hi,
I've got the same issue. I've updated bios and the fan spins up a lot less than it did but when spinning it is scratching sounding like it is misaligned. 9370, i7 and 16gb ram, bought May 2018

I habe the same Problem with my fan noise no matter when plugged in to Adapter or not. I updated and the Settings are regulated for quiet fan and Long Lasting power. Any help here?

XPS 13 9370 - i7, 16GB RAM, purchased last week
I have the same excessive fan noise problem. I have updated all the drivers, as advised previously in this thread, but still the problem persists. Sorry to say that it will be going back to Dell if I can't get a solution :(

Is this normal? It sounds like fan grinding noise.

Hi @Radigo,
Thanks for reaching out. There are two distinct issues with the fan that we are discussing here on the thread - a fan that spins faster and louder than usual with the system under minimal load and a fan that is mechanically failing with a grinding / growling noise.
Can you confirm whether the system fan is simply loud, or if it is making an abnormal noise during use?
Also, when you mention you updated drivers, do you mean the system BIOS?

Hi @LesterLyu,
Thanks for the video, that sounds like a mechanically failing fan. I'll drop you a private message to get some more details from you.

I just opened my XPS and the fan noise started after 20 minutes. Crazy crunching noise and so much coil wine it woke someone up from sleeping.
How is did you fix the fan noise does it require a new fan? I hate to start sending in a laptop for repair that’s two days old?
Sad that this laptop does this hope dell can make it right

Does anybody know the fail rate for the faulty fan issue? I am surprised to still see complaints on 8/1.
I am interested in purchasing an XPS 9370 but might want to wait until Dell figures out the root cause and no longer sells units with this issue.
I am mainly concerned about the mechanical issue. Bios fixes don't concern me. Unless it takes too long to fix, of course.
Thanks

I purchased this laptop YESTERDAY and am experiencing the same issues.
At first it was just the loud fan, but for a good 10 minutes I experienced the fan rattling. I updated everything that I could (including the BIOS). It has periods of quiet-ness but I'm honestly shocked with how loud this laptop is considering the price.

Hi @Texaspancake,
Thanks for getting in touch, can you elaborate more on your coil whine noise please. I haven't heard any mentions of coil whine so far from any other users.
How have you been able to identify the noise as coil whine rather than abnormal fan noise?
Does the coil whine coincide with the crunching/grinding fan noise?
Does it change pitch or tone when the system is under load?
Are you able to provide a video demonstrating this?
When do you hear the coil whine, is it when the ac adaptor is connected to the system or does it occur on battery only?
Have you updated the system to the latest BIOS since setting it up?
I'll drop you a private message to get more details from you.
