You may not be able to install the fingerprint reader on your system after a clean install of Windows 10. In the Device Manager, the fingerprint reader will display the following error: "This device cannot start (code 10), The current device power state cannot support this request."

Dell Data Protection | Security Tools are not compatible with Windows 10. Instead, Windows 10 must manage the fingerprint scanner.

To resolve this behavior:

  1. Download the Dell ControlVault Driver from the Dell Support site and run the installer.
  2. Download the Dell ControlVault Firmware from the Dell Support site and run the installer.
  3. Within Windows, navigate to C:\dell\Drivers\GDFGW\firmware, double-click, and run ushupgrade.exe.
