Yogore/Mura defect, smearing, wavy, jagged lines

Smearing, wavy, jagged lines may occasionally appear on some LCD panels. This phenomenon is recognized in the industry as Yogore or Mura. Those are Japanese terms for "unevenness." This term is used to describe a low contrast, irregular pattern or region that causes uneven screen uniformity under certain conditions. This is a result of the deterioration of the LC (liquid crystal) alignment layer; most commonly caused by long term operation under high ambient temperatures. Yogore/Mura has been around since the introduction of LCD technology. It is an industry wide phenomenon and is not repairable. All Dell can do is exchange the monitor if still within the purchased warranty period. If already outside of the purchased warranty period, Yogore/Mura can be minimized by the following methods:

* Lower the backlight brightness
* Use a screen saver
* Reduce the ambient temperature around the unit
