Instructions

To stack the PowerConnect 6200 series switches, do the following.

1.  Power off the switches and install the stacking module into the first slot on the left in the back of the switch.

NOTE: Stacking will only work on the first module slot and is not supported in the second slot.

  • Set the stacking interfaces for Stack mode if they are in Ethernet Mode.
    1. console#show stack-port will inform you of the current interface mode.

    2.  The following commands changes the modes for the interfaces, and then reboots the switch.

    console#config

    console(config)#stack

    console(config-stack)#stack-port 1/xg1 stack

    console(config-stack)#stack-port 1/xg2 stack

    console(config-stack)#end

    console#copy running-configuration startup-configuration

    console#reload

NOTE: A reboot is required for the new mode to take effect. The reload command reboots the switch.

    • Update each switch to the latest firmware using the instructions.

    • Power off the switches. For each switch in the stack, connect one of the stacking cables from stack port one on the switch to stack port two on the next switch. On the last switch cable port 1 to port 2 of the first switch in the stack.

    3.  Power on the desired primary switch first. Afterwards power on the next switch one at a time until every switch is powered on.

NOTE: The Primary and Operation Standby switches keep the startup-configuration of the stack. You can only access the console port from the Primary.

    • console#show switch will show the switch status, firmware code, and number of switches in the stack. Use this to verify stacking.
